Location
We are located on the first floor of Middle East. If you go under the main stairs of East and through those doors, we are the first door on the right. For ramp access, use the wooden ramp access over by Pleasants to the back door of East. We share the Center for Learning Excellence with the QR Center.Mission Statement
Our Commitment to Students:
The Hollins University Writing Center will provide a comfortable atmosphere for students writing at all levels and in all disciplines. Writing Center tutors are committed to ongoing training in established methods of peer tutoring to promote collaborative learning. As peer tutors, we will work one-on-one with students to help them understand writing assignments and to assist them at all stages of the writing process, including brainstorming, organizing, revising, and documenting sources. We will serve as a preliminary audience for students’ ideas while ensuring that their work remains their own.
Our Commitment to Faculty:
We are committed to clear communication with faculty. We will strive to reinforce and support the Hollins curriculum while upholding the Honor Code. Our goal is to assist students in producing structurally sound, well-considered papers in all disciplines.
Our Commitment to the University:
The Writing Center will foster academic success and student retention by supporting interdisciplinary writing through peer interaction. We will encourage visits to the Writing Center while continually improving tutoring methods. Using multi-media communication and in-class presentations, we will continue to build a positive presence in the Hollins community.
