We are located on the first floor of Middle East. If you go under the main stairs of East and through those doors, we are the first door on the right. For ramp access, use the wooden ramp access over by Pleasants to the back door of East. We share the Center for Learning Excellence with the QR Center.

Mission Statement

Our Commitment to Students:

The Hollins University Writing Center will provide a comfortable atmosphere for students writing at all levels and in all disciplines. As peer tutors, we will work one-on-one with students to help them understand writing assignments and assist them at all stages of the writing process, including brainstorming, organizing, revising, and documenting sources. We will serve as an audience for students’ ideas while ensuring that their work remains their own.

Our Commitment to Faculty:

Writing Center tutors are committed to clear communication with faculty. We will support the Hollins curriculum while upholding the Honor Code. Our goal is to assist students in understanding assignments and producing structurally sound, deliberate writing in all disciplines.

Our Commitment to the University:

The Writing Center will foster academic success and women’s leadership through peer conferencing in a student-run environment. Writing Center tutors will build on their knowledge of peer tutoring theory by engaging with students, other tutors, and the larger academic community. Using multi-media communication and in-class presentations, we will continue to build a positive presence in the Hollins community.
