Rachel McCarthy James is the interim coordinator of the Writing Center during the search for a permanent director. In her capacity as coordinator, she handles the day-to-day operations of the Writing Center, supervising and counseling the tutoring staff in tutoring sessions, promotion of the Center, hiring new tutors, coordinating efforts with the QR center, and managing other administrative responsibilities. Rachel (sometimes called RMJ) is originally from Lawrence, Kansas and graduated magna cum laude from Hollins in May 2008, where she studied English and Political Science and was involved with the Writing Center as a tutor and NEFA. She also works at an e-structor at online writing lab Smarthinking. Rachel lives in Salem with her partner Jason and their two cats, Thurgood and August.
