Blackboard FAQ - Troubleshooting & BB Error Messages

• Some students don't receive email sent to them from Blackboard

Users with aol email addresses listed as the email address in Blackboard may not receive email messages from the BB system because some AOL gateways refuse cnnections from BB servers.  Solution: students should use a hollins email address for the BB email address. Students can change the address used by BB by clicking on Personal Information on the main BB page after they login.  Next select Edit Personal Information.   Make the email address change. Click Submit at the bottom of the page.

• An error occurred while the system was processing this login request.

This one means the username you typed in does not exist in the Blackboard database of users.  Your Blackboard username should be the same at your network username (generally your last name followed by you first and middle initial.  If you don't have a middle initial, your last name is followed by the first 2 letters of your first name

• Could not login.  Valid authentication credentials were not provided.

This means that the password you typed in is incorrect.  Blackboard found your username in the system, but the password you typed didn't match what is in our system.  Passwords are case sensitive.  Make sure that the Cap Lock key is not on.

If you know that your email address in the Blackboard system has been set correctly, you can use the Forgot Your Password? link on the Blackboard login page, otherwise call the Helpdesk at x7777 for assistance.
