Day of Service is a three-hour service project during orientation week
that provides an opportunity for students to link with their host
community right from the start! The SHARE Fair gives students the chance
to sign up for a service experience on a regular basis throughout the
year.
MLK, Jr., Day of Service
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, "Life's
most persistent and urgent question is: "What are you doing for others?"
Each year, Americans across the country answer that question by coming
together on the King Holiday to serve their neighbors and communities.
Hollins University observes this Day of Service on the Friday before the
Martin Luther King Jr. holiday. Students, staff and faculty at Hollins
have the opportunity to volunteer their time at local schools, medical
facilities and agencies that offer services to the community.
Big Event
The Big Event is a volunteer opportunity offered to the students,
faculty and staff at Hollins in the spring each year. This day is
dedicated to the neighbors around the Hollins campus to help them with
any indoor/outdoor projects. Some of these projects may include
painting, raking, house cleaning, etc. This opportunity allows everyone
volunteering to not only give back to the surrounding community but also
to get to know our neighbors.
