Head Women’s Volleyball Coach/Instructor of Physical Education

Hollins University, a NCAA Division III institution and member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC), invites applications for the position of Head Women’s Volleyball Coach, with duties as a physical education instructor, beginning early in 2010. This position is a full-time, ten-month, non-tenure-track faculty appointment reporting to the Director of Athletics. 

The head coach will be responsible for the overall development and management of the newly added varsity program, which will enter its inaugural season in the 2010-2011 academic year.  Coaching duties include the recruitment and retention of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes in a rigorous academic environment, practice planning and implementation, scheduling, team travel, and budget management.  Teaching duties will include a variety of physical education activity courses. 

Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree in physical education or a related field; previous physical education instruction and coaching experience at the collegiate level; thorough understanding and working knowledge of NCAA regulations; valid and clear driver’s license; strong communication skills; ability to work within the framework of ODAC policies and NCAA rules and regulations; and willingness to work on projects with faculty, administrators, and staff.  A successful candidate must also demonstrate effective teaching methods and excellent leadership, organization, and interpersonal skills.  Final applicants will be subject to criminal history and motor vehicle background checks.

Assistant Professor, Business - General (Tenure-Track)

The Department of Economics and Business at Hollins University seeks to fill a tenure-track assistant professorship in general business starting in fall of 2010.  
Candidates are sought who are well-rounded with scholarly expertise in either marketing or organizational behavior, and who are effective teachers with demonstrated interest in contributing to a rigorous, liberal arts curriculum.  The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in marketing, organizational behavior, human resources, and/or women and entrepreneurship depending on expertise.

Hollins business faculty members have opportunities to collaborate with interdisciplinary programs such as international studies, environmental studies, gender and women's studies, and the Batten Leadership Institute.  Responsibilities of the position include teaching six courses per year, advising students, contributing to the further development of the business program, and sustaining a program of scholarly research.  Completion of the Ph
.D. is preferred by the time of appointment.

Creative Writing Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track)

The English Department at Hollins University seeks to fill a tenure-track position in creative writing at the undergraduate and M.F.A. levels.  The six-course load includes teaching responsibilities in multi-genre creative writing courses, graduate tutorials in fiction, appropriate courses in literature, as well as thesis advising.  Hollins University expects its faculty to participate actively in program and department administration, university-level governance, and co-curricular programming.

The department seeks an experienced teacher who has a demonstrated commitment and passion for both undergraduate and graduate teaching and a record of success in these endeavors.  A Ph.D. in literature or a terminal degree in creative writing is required.  The successful candidate will also have at least one book-length publication in fiction and substantial journal publications in poetry.

Studio Art Position (Tenure-Track)

The Art Department at Hollins University seeks to fill a tenure-track studio art position (rank open) in two-dimensional art.  Primary teaching responsibilities include beginning through advanced drawing, figure drawing, and studio senior seminar, with other opportunities for course development in response to student needs and candidate’s interest.  Examples include collage, mixed media, and non-objective art.  An interest in printmaking is desirable.

The department seeks an experienced teacher who has a demonstrated commitment and passion for undergraduate teaching with desires to participate in the life of a department that emphasizes both the study and practice of art and at a university with a proud commitment to its liberal arts mission.  Opportunities exist for collaborative efforts in other creative areas such as film, dance, theater, and creative writing.  A deep commitment to professional productivity, with an active exhibition record in drawing or mixed media, is essential.

The art department is housed in the Richard Wetherill Visual Arts Center, a spacious and outstanding facility with excellent teaching spaces.  The department enjoys a rich history of success that includes the Frances Niederer Artist-in-Residence program and input into exhibitions.  The visual arts center is also home to the Eleanor D. Wilson Museum, which serves the department, university and Roanoke community as a rich cultural resource.
