If you want peace in the world then you got to be peace, and you have to be at peace with yourself. -Laura Boutwell
Benita Bobo's Reflections
I am a senior at Hollins University. I was born in Prince George's County, MD and have lived there all of my life. I was raised by my grandparents and my Gramma describes me best when saying, "Yeah Benita is spoiled rotten. but if I could go back I wouldn't change a thing. She is truly a good person." My hobbies include going to the movies, reading, dance, theatre, and sleeping. I took part in this project because it is always good to hear about someone else's life. Everyone can teach you something.
When interviewing Laura she taught me a lot about living for change and is a very positive person. Hopefully, for the couple of hours we spent interviewing, some of that brushed off on me.
The task was difficult but it taught me a lot about the interviewing process and myself. I think it would be a good thing for everyone to just record a conversation they have with someone. It taught me how people can perceive me and what communication skills I needed to brush up on.
In reference to WOMAN ACTIVISTS I think that WE are humble about OUR work. I guess humbleness is good but BE PROUD. BE LOUD. BE ACTIVE. Most importantly, everyone must voice their opinion. We should not let issues that try to separate us get in the way of social change.
