SUCCESSFUL DEFINITION

Hieu:…well, Are you consider you are a successful person?

Brinton:  Suc-cess-ful? (P)…..you know when I was a child, even a young adult, people used to ask me either I am consider I am a happy person and I say…you know I don’t think of happiness….my mother always raise us to think of happiness in being the next life not in this life….um….what I would say now that I am as successful as another …….I have to say that by… sort of objective indicated of success… I am very fortunate.  I have a job, I have a paycheck, I have status on my professor at well-known university, I lien in…a bank all my house together……pay a mortgage…..um…..I have a partner and a relationship….that I feel fulfill by, and fill loved by, and loving us….SO I feel exceptionally fortunate.  (P) ….um….I feel also simultaneous exceptionally …um….driven to bring those resources to the ….the things that I care about.  Things that …..injustice in the world.  And so I don’t feel comfortable in less the larger community which I am ……person….is it able to benefits ….similarly ….um…..because unlike many of my siblings who think that if you work hard, you will able to have kind of things I have….

  I KNOW, that many…many…many….many…many…many people of the world that as majority of….the world population work hard every day.  And they suffer …..terrific oppression marginalization ………lack of good health.  And so I don’ think it has as only to do with hard work.  I have worked very hard, but I have also been born into certain historical moment, into certain family, with certain opportunities and I’ve been lucky.  I’ve had opportunity, I’ve had good fortune…
