Jenny Jo
Hey! That's me!
So you want
to know about me, huh? Well, if you
haven’t read the other tidbits, I will tell you first that I am selective
about what I tell people and who I tell it to.
Second, the class that birthed this page, Anthropology 250-2, Life
Histories and Self Narratives, has taught me that we construct ourselves the way
we want others to perceive us. We
have discussed the power of words and the impossibility of actual truth (it is
all filtered through someone, or several people’s biases).
That means that I will be creating myself through these words in a way
that shows you what and only what I want you to see or know.
I will leave out important events and characteristic.
I will make myself look good.
Now for the fun part… I am graduating college on May 19, 2002 with a BA
in International Studies. I am
excited to have my own bathroom and kitchen; I am not excited to be leaving my
friends. Hollins has been great
overall. I was able to do amazing
things like a service project in Jamaica and study abroad in Uganda.
I like to drum and have played since I was in fourth grade.
My love of music and fixation with drums led me to buy locally made drums
in each new country I visit.
I realize
that I am trying to be funny, but I am not an exceptionally funny person.
I like to get 8-9 hours of sleep and get up early if possible.
I tend to just go about my days, doing whatever is due next.
I do a lot of schoolwork (see the picture of my desk). I
like to watch movies; baseball and war movies are my favorites… unless I am
feeling particularly girly that day and I go for a romantic comedy.
I grew up in a small town with a cool family and a lot of
freedom—probably because everyone knew me and would tell my mom if I got too
out of line. I was, and still am,
too afraid of getting caught to cause much mischief.
I also
love books. My greatest spending
temptation is the wonderful independent bookstore in my town.
Someday I would love to have time to read in the mornings and do
volunteer work in the afternoons, maybe work at a bookstore. I’d like to write a couple books too. Until then, I will be a strong, independent woman with a
great career in I don’t know what yet. Hopefully
I will be in the Peace Corps for a few years.
I would be happy being a camp counselor during the summer and a college
professor the rest of the year. That
means more schooling, which I would love so much more without exams.
That, and I have no idea what my specialty will be.
But you never know what will happen.
