The Amazing Douglas C. Waters

"Farming is just totally different.  It's out of doors; I've always worked indoors.  The way we are doing it is in just a beautiful setting, great piece of mind and a great tension reliever to go out in the field and work with the animals and do the physical labor that's involved."

Mr. Douglas C. Waters was born in Maryland during World War II.  He has one younger brother who currently lives in Richmond with his wife.  Mr. Waters graduated Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York.  He continued his education at The Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.  During this time he married his wife Mary.  He soon was called into active duty in the Army so they moved from Detroit, MI to Germany.  He and his wife had two children during this time  and after his term of service was over he and his family relocated to Richmond, VA.  Mr. Waters was working at this time in the banking profession.  After almost four years in Richmond, a job change brought his family to Roanoke, VA where they lived for eight years before moving to Abingdon, VA where he and his wife purchased a small farm and began to raise cattle.  After three years in Abingdon, they sold the farm and the cattle and followed a job opportunity back to Roanoke.  Once they returned, they almost immediately purchased their current farm.  The banking industry was changing and Mr. Waters was presented with a job opportunity at Hollins University working as the Vice President of Finance and Administration.  He accepted the position and retired from banking.  He has been working at Hollins for four years.  He currently lives with his wife outside of Roanoke on ninety pristine acres along with twelve head of cattle and spring calves on the way.
