COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This interdisciplinary course explores the creative potential of video, sound and web design as it shapes and influences performance. Projects, readings and discussion focus on new media as a tool, a alternative medium and an environment for multimedia work.

REQUIREMENTS:
Attendance and Homework:
Please come to class on time. Expect to work at least 6-8 hours outside of class (lab, studio and reading). If you miss a class, make-up class time and lab hours before the next class. Missing more than three classes will lower your grade.

Participation:
Verbal participation during critiques and discussions is required (10% final grade). Critiques are an ongoing, supportive and constructive dialogue. All projects must be shown in class on the due date-- late projects will receive a lower grade.

Evaluation :
You will receive a midterm report and final grade. Evaluation is ongoing and cumulative-- let me know if need more feedback. Attendance, completed assignments, readings, presentations and discussion are required for a passing grade. Exceptional grades meet the following criteria: 1) interesting, thoughtful work 2) developed work process
3) basic computer skills 4) motivation and open-minded attitude

Media Lab:
The lab is open when classes are in session. If the door is locked, you may check out the lab key from security (bring ID) for evening and weekend lab time. Read and sign “media lab guidelines” before using lab. Programs used in the lab are iMovie, SoundEdit 16 and Dreamweaver.

Materials:
DV tapes (3 pack), one 250MG ZIP disk (PC or Mac)
