an obduracy.
beauty is an action (thomas defrantz)
we are including physical experience as a way of processing the presence of
moments in the body (ann cooper albright). to physicalize movement is to
explore the aesthetical, and therefore dance is an exploration of what is aesthetical,
what is instinctually multiple, visible, exact, light, quick, and continuous in
order to find the self. it is not just practice. it is life.
we are disassembling to assemble again. we are deconstructing the conformative.
we are in a period of post-identity (ramsay burt). this is the post-identity.
this is the collage of the self. where the limits of the identity are cut-up,
remixed, dropped randomly on the page, then glued down. this is what we come up
with. over and over again. an action. a reality made up of the imagined and the
real, what we perceive to be real and what really is. if you can’t change
reality, change your perceptions of it (audre lorde).
i am the insistence of surface (judith butler). i refuse to be invaded.
i am dignity. see me again and again. fixed. i am somewhere. this is not only
me.
we must imagine new narratives. we must demonstrate this on the body. physicality
is the new language. forget all words. forget i write this. i am deflecting your
gaze. the surface does not yield.
