Phyllis L. Mellinger
| Phyllis Mellinger, Director of Quantitative
Reasoning, joined the Hollins University faculty in 2002 as an adjunct
instructor. Her new responsibilities include recruiting, hiring, training
and supervising student tutors to support the QR requirements. In addition
she is currently teaching Introduction to Quantitative Reasoning, Teaching of
Mathematics in the Elementary and Middle Schools and QR Tutor Theory and
Practice. Mrs. Mellinger represented Hollins University at the Northeast consortium for Quantitative Literacy in April 2003. She participated in PREP workshop on Quantitative Literacy Across the curriculum in Aug 2003 . This summer she presented the Hollins QR program at the Capstone conference sponsored by the American Sociological Association, attended a PMET workshop on Teaching of Mathematics in the Elementary Schools and participated in a PREP workshop on Quantitative Literacy Across the curriculum. Mrs. Mellinger received her B.S. and M. Ed from Millersville University. She taught mathematics for 15 years in the Lebanon School District. In addition, she taught as an adjunct instructor at Millersville University and Virginia Western Community College. Mrs. Mellinger gained 11 years of business experience with Sprint, Local Telephone Division. As a product manager, she was responsible for developing & implementing marketing strategy, product training, sales promotions and advertising to achieve forecasted revenues. Mrs. Mellinger loves chocolate, oldies music and her favorite golfer is Fred Couples. Her outside activities include jogging, weightlifting, swimming, tennis, reading and golfing with her husband. |
