Type of business: The Martin Agency is responsible for the current GEICO television commercials and recently contracted with WalMart for services which include advertising, strategic planning, public relations, marketing, media planning, and more. The Martin Agency was founded in 1965, and has two offices and more than 300 employees nationwide. Its clients have included Coca-Cola, GEICO, Quizno's, Nascar, Olympus, Hanes, Saab, Seiko, Thomasville, and United Parcel Service (UPS).

The Martin Agency DOES NOT accept individual student interns; instead, students apply for intensive workshop internships, one of which takes place in January of each year.

Interns participate in a 10-day student workshop that features seminars on issues in advertising as well as a case project for a Martin Agency client. Guided by two team heads from Account Management, each case project team of five interns “will concept, create and present an integrated marketing communications plan to agency executives and a client representative.”…Only The Martin Agency’s Richmond office offers this workshop.

NOTE: Students must submit additional application materials which are available in the Career Center. Final selection of interns for the workshop is made solely by the Martin Agency.

What departments offer internships?  Exhibition Lighting

Qualifications: Applicant should:

A. Not be afraid of heights or small spaces.

B. Be somewhat familiar with basic hand and power tools.

C. Be interested in and willing to learn about the basic mechanics and principles involved when lighting accessioned art in a variety of gallery spaces.

Duties:

1. Assist with maintaining the lighting in existing galleries. This includes supervised use of a Genii Lift, replacing dead lamps and recording data in our lamp inventory database.

2. Repair & maintenance of various types of lighting fixtures (after training).

3. Assist in preparation for upcoming exhibit in February.

4. Other duties as assigned.

Type of Business:  Small animal veterinary practice offering traditional medicine and surgery, acupuncture, holistic medicine, and ultrasound

Qualifications:  Preferred GPA is 3.5 or above with demonstrated commitment to a career in veterinary medicine.  This could be through riding, working with another veterinary practice, in a boarding kennel, dog showing, zoo work, etc.

Duties: We offer the chance to shadow a doctor while she performs surgery, sees patients on appointments, and treats hospitalized patients.  Hands-on opportunities will be limited by experience level.  We typically see only dogs and cats but there are limited opportunities for some pocket pets.  Our practice consists of the owner veterinarian, who works full time and is certified in veterinary acupuncture and Chinese medicine, a part time associate veterinarian who is certified by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, and myself (a Hollins alumna), a full time associate.
