international programs office at Hollins provides information and services for
students interested in studying abroad.

Application forms
for each program are only available through the International Programs
office in Turner Hall. Please
call our office for your program's deadlines.
Please be sure to read the

and then review the program information (click on any program link at right) on
any programs that may be of interest to you. This

programs offering courses in your areas of academic interest and also which
programs offer opportunities for internships and community service.

approved list are subject to the normal credit
approval
process. This

Kirsten McKinney joined Hollins University in September 2007 as the Director of International
Programs. She holds an MA in International Development Studies/International
Business from The Elliott School of International Affairs at The George
Washington University in Washington, DC and a BA in International Relations from
Randolph-Macon Woman's College in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Prior to
moving to Roanoke with her husband and
their cat (“child”), Claudia,
Kirsten spent 10
years in the Washington, DC area. Most recently she served as Education Manager
for the British Council (the cultural arm of the British Embassy) where she
oversaw
the US education portfolio which
included education promotion activities, teacher exchanges and education policy
reform initiatives. Her previous work experience also includes four years
managing overseas projects for World Learning,
a private, non-profit international
organization with both academic and field project capabilities. Kirsten’s work
centered around civil society and democracy and governance in countries such as
Albania, Armenia, Benin, Malawi, Russia and Uganda. Additionally, she worked at
ACDI/VOCA, another non-profit international organization,
managing US-based training programs for international agricultural and business
clients.
Kirsten has traveled to a number of countries,
including Albania, Armenia, Belgium, France, French Polynesia, Ireland, Mexico,
Morocco, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates and most
extensively in the UK. She spent her Junior Year of college living and studying
in Reading, England attending courses at both the University of Reading and
Oxford University.

Susie has been on staff in the International Programs office since the
fall of 2000 when she was admitted to Hollins' Horizon Program from which she
graduated in May, 2003. In her previous lives, she has worked as a computer
programmer for the City of Roanoke and a technical writer for a medical
software company. When she is not in the office, she is leading lifewriting
or ethical will workshops. She enjoys reading to her grandchildren, writing
for Story Circle Network, and personal history (life narratives). Susie
has been married to her first husband, a U.S. Forest Service
retiree, for 37 years. They have three grown children, and three grandchildren: a
sophisticated eight-year-old granddaughter
named Sophie, an adventurous six-year-old grandson named Boone, and an
two-year-old grandson named Americus (Mec) Joseph.

Sara Levine
has been directing the Hollins Abroad London Programme since 1983.
After taking an MA in West European Politics at the London School of
Economics, she worked as a researcher in the House of Commons and taught British
Government & Politics to American undergraduates in London.
She has lived in the capital for forty years and takes full advantage of
it, enjoying the theatre and concert life especially; she has a particular
passion for Handel operas.
Sara
is a keen traveller and very much enjoys taking students on weekend trips
within Europe. In recent years, she
has accompanied them to Italy, France, Croatia, Sweden, the Netherlands,
Austria, Hungary and Spain. She is
exceptionally fond of Venice.
Her daughter, Florence, is a medical student at the University of London.
