Security Officer

Hollins University is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time, benefits-eligible position of Security Officer.  This position provides security patrol services 24 hours/day, 365 days/year for the university in order to protect the institution’s assets, properties, students, employees, guests, and visitors against disturbances, fires, injury, vandalism, theft, violence, and criminal acts.   

Successful applicants must be a US citizen or legal US resident eligible for employment; be at least 21 years of age; possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent; and have a valid and clear driver’s license from state of residence.  Candidates must also have excellent oral and written communication skills, strong computer skills, and abilities to work independently and deal effectively with diverse populations.  Applicants must be able to work any shift with rotating days off.  Candidates must be able to achieve and maintain Virginia campus security officer certification.  Applicants with law enforcement, campus security, military, and/or private security experience are preferred.  Candidates will be subject to a background investigation including criminal history, motor vehicle, and reference checks.

Admission Counselors

Hollins University is seeking qualified candidates for two Admission Counselor positions. 

Responsibilities include representing Hollins to prospective students and their parents, college counselors, and alumnae; recruiting secondary students to Hollins; assisting prospective students throughout the application, admission, financial aid, and enrollment processes; and planning and implementing recruitment activities for prospective students within a specified region.  He/she represents Hollins during on and off-campus recruitment events, interviews prospective students, and may supervise student workers.  One position will act as the liaison between the Office of Admission and the Department of Athletics, and the other will assist the Events Coordinator with preparation and execution of on-campus admission events.

Residential Learning Coordinators

Hollins University is seeking qualified candidates for two Residential Learning Coordinator positions.   

Reporting to the Director of Housing & Residence Life, the Residential Learning Coordinators (RLCs) are responsible for the immediate supervision and programmatic and administrative operations of undergraduate residential areas.  The RLC for Area One oversees a residential area housing approximately 400 undergraduates, which consists of traditional residence halls housing primarily first-year students and an apartment complex housing upperclassmen.  The RLC for Area Two oversees a residential area housing approximately 300 undergraduates, which consists of seven residential facilities, including traditional residence halls, and several special interest communities.   

The RLCs directly supervise 13-14 undergraduate and one graduate staff members, are responsible for continuing professional development of their staffs, encourage community development, refer students to appropriate university resources when needed, and monitor the safety and security of designated residential areas.  These positions work closely with Physical Plant Operations, Campus Security, Enrollment, and other Student Affairs staff members.  The Residential Learning Coordinators are required to live on campus, and may be called at any time to assist with student emergencies. 

Successful applicants must have a master’s degree in student personnel administration or related field and Microsoft Office proficiency.  Applicants must be able to work in student residential buildings that are not handicap accessible, have a valid and clear driver’s license, and a personal automobile that’s available 24/7.  Preference is given to candidates with previous experience in residence life, particularly with first-year housing, apartment community development, and/or specialty housing.  Experience with small institutions and single-sex education is also preferred.  Final candidates will be subject to criminal history and motor vehicle background checks.

Alumnae Engagement Administrative Assistant

Hollins University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Alumnae Engagement Administrative Assistant. 

The assistant provides administrative support to the Alumnae Engagement office; serves as the phone and in-person receptionist for the External Relations division; and also acts as a university receptionist, providing information and directions for campus visitors.  He/she generates correspondence and reports, oversees event RSVPs and information, responds to Alumnae Engagement e-mail account inquiries, maintains electronic database records, deposits and directs event funds and gifts, handles mail, orders office supplies, and submits building maintenance work orders.  This position also provides backup to other administrative assistants in the building, including the Assistant to the Vice President for External Relations, and helps other members of the External Relations staff as needed. 

The successful applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent; minimum of three years of related experience; Microsoft Office proficiency; and strong customer service, communication, writing/editing, phone, organizational, multitasking, accuracy, and detail skills.  Must also have abilities to work independently and on a team, to work in a highly interruptive environment, and to maintain discretion with confidential and sensitive information.  Applicants must be able to occasionally work outside normal office hours.  Candidates with knowledge of and experience with Hollins and Ellucian Banner are preferred.  Final candidates will be subject to criminal history and credit history background checks.

Director of Student Activities and Organizations

Hollins University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director of Student Activities and Organizations. 

As a member of the Student Affairs division, and reporting to the Assistant Dean of Students, the Director of Student Activities and Organizations performs a number of essential college student development functions within the university community.  S/he has significant responsibilities in student advising, event planning, communications/public relations, campus collaboration, and supervision in order to provide comprehensive programming efforts that appeal to a diverse student population.  As a developmental and social link for students, the director must be an advocate for student events and organizations to the university community, and fully committed to the recruitment, retention, and persistence of all Hollins students.  The director also supervises one graduate assistant and up to three student employees.  Due to required evening and weekend hours and her/his potential role in emergency response, the director is required to live on-campus.

Outreach/Liaison Librarian

The Wyndham Robertson Library at Hollins University invites applications for the position of Outreach/Liaison Librarian.  

The Outreach/Liaison Librarian, working in collaboration with library and university colleagues, will provide leadership in the proposal, development, and execution of library outreach and marketing efforts (examples include, but not are limited to, orientations, exhibits, events, publications, and signage).  The librarian will communicate library messages through print and online channels, including the coordination of the library’s social media presence; work with the Information Technology Librarian to maintain the library website and the library's presence in university portals; and coordinate forums (e.g., student advisory committee, focus groups, and surveys) to gather feedback and input from campus community members on library services and resources.  The librarian will also serve as a liaison librarian providing instruction, reference, and collection development services to designated academic departments.  The librarian will provide regular reference desk support, including one evening shift per week during the regular academic year, and may also work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for special events.  

Qualified candidates must have an ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and information science or other related master’s degree; knowledge of library trends, standards, and technology; excellent communication and organizational skills; a demonstrated commitment to professional development; and the interest and ability to provide reference, instruction, and collection development.  Successful applicants must also have abilities to prioritize tasks, work with flexibility, and be creative; to self-start and work independently, as well as on a team; and to communicate and interact effectively with library and university staff, faculty, students, and members of the public.  Candidates are sought who are committed to cross-functional librarianship, interested in working in a collaborative library environment, and eager to participate in the daily life of a small, liberal arts university community.  Experience working in libraries is preferred, as is experience in graphic and/or web design.  Early career librarians are encouraged to apply.

Major & Planned Gifts Officer

Hollins University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Major & Planned Gifts Officer.

The Major & Planned Gifts Officer (M&PGO) is responsible for cultivating, soliciting, and securing significant gift support for the institution’s capital and endowment priorities, as well as leadership-level annual contributions to the Hollins Fund.  He/she will manage a portfolio of 200 alumnae and other individuals who have been identified as potential donors for outright and/or deferred gifts of $25,000 or more. The M&PGO will work collaboratively with other External Relations staff, the President, Trustees, faculty, and volunteers to help maximize philanthropic support for Hollins.  In addition, he/she will provide support to his/her Hollins colleagues working on alumnae engagement initiatives in admission, career networking, and regional programs, as well as participate in reunion. 

Successful applicants must have a bachelor’s degree (advanced degree or relevant certification preferred); familiarity with Hollins and/or similar institutions, including a passion for small, student-centered, independent, liberal arts colleges, and appreciation for the single-sex educational environment; minimum of three years of previous fundraising experience with educational or other non-profit organizations, including a demonstrated ability to meet established annual performance goals and to sustain high performance over multiple years; aptitude for and/or knowledge of planned giving vehicles, as well as an understanding of how to market such vehicles to donors; excellent oral and written communication skills, superb diplomacy and tact, active listening skills; a strong customer-service orientation; and proficiency with Windows XP and Microsoft Office.

Director of Major & Planned Gifts

Hollins University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director of Major & Planned Gifts. 

Reporting to the Vice President for External Relations, the Director of Major & Planned Gifts serves as coordinator and principal strategist for the university’s efforts to secure immediate and deferred gifts of $25,000 or more in support of the institution’s identified capital and endowment priorities.  He/she advances the major gift program by managing the work of other major gift fundraisers, offering training and support for any staff or volunteers involved in gift cultivation and solicitation, encouraging the identification and development of new potential donors, and ensuring that Hollins maintains an aggressive schedule of contacts that results in ever-growing philanthropic support.

The director also coordinates, through his/her own efforts and/or the activities of volunteers or other staff, Hollins’ deferred-giving program.  He/she will solidify and expand the base of future bequest intentions by soliciting and booking deferred gifts, marketing bequest intentions and other planned giving vehicles, stewarding deferred gift commitments, maintaining the deferred-giving donor database, and producing periodic expectancy reports.  

The director must also be deeply involved in achieving the university’s annual primary fundraising priority – the Hollins Fund.  He/she will serve as a lead member of the Hollins Fund team, and will solicit leadership gifts from reunion class members toward the fund’s $3 million-plus annual goal.

The director will lead by example, working with a portfolio of individuals who have been identified by Hollins as prospective donors for significant outright or deferred gifts.  He/she will be responsible for Hollins’ relationships with those individuals, and coordinate their cultivation and solicitation, including their annual support for the Hollins Fund. 

Successful applicants must have a bachelor’s degree (advanced degree or relevant certification preferred); familiarity with Hollins and/or similar institutions, including a passion for small, student-centered, independent, liberal arts colleges, and appreciation for the single-sex educational environment; minimum of five years of previous fundraising experience with educational or other non-profit organizations, including a demonstrated ability to meet established annual performance goals, and to sustain high performance over multiple years (experience securing individual major gifts and/or leadership annual fund contributions preferred); prior experience in successfully managing professional staff, especially a team of fundraisers; aptitude for and/or knowledge of planned giving vehicles, as well as an understanding of how to market such vehicles to donors; excellent oral and written communication skills, superb diplomacy and tact, active listening skills, and a strong customer-service orientation; and proficient Windows XP and Microsoft Office skills.  Experience using Ellucian Banner is preferred.

Custodian

Hollins University is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time custodian.  Scheduled hours are Mon.-Fri., 4:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., with periodic weekend work.  

Qualifications include the ability to perform basic housekeeping functions (dusting, vacuuming, use of floor care equipment, bathroom sanitation, etc.) and may involve furniture moving and setup.  Must have abilities to climb stairs, lift up to 50 lbs, and understand and follow directions.  Must also be a self-starter and team player, and have a valid and clear driver’s license.  Will be subject to criminal history and motor vehicle background checks.
