WHAT'S IN A NAME? Officially, we are the Physical Plant Department of Hollins University, but we answer to a variety of names from "maintenance" to the "people who fix and clean things." The Physical Plant Department is comprised of 52 employees in four different service units: Custodial, Grounds, Maintenance and Painting. Physical Plant is responsible for the maintenance and operation of campus buildings and grounds, major repairs and renovations. It is our job to fix the leaky roofs, paint and repair the walls, maintain the electrical and mechanical systems, keep the floors shiny and the restrooms clean, mow the grass and care for the trees and flowers. It is quite a responsibility and we take it very seriously. WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM PHYSICAL PLANT? The provision of custodial, grounds, maintenance and painting services to the faculty, staff and students of Hollins University requires a high degree of organization and planning. Systems and procedures are in place to provide for routine service needs as well as the unexpected and - we hate to admit it - the forgotten or overlooked. You should expect to find the employees of the Physical Plant Department courteous and helpful. As individual users of the services provided by our department, there are certain results you should expect. PHYSICAL PLANT
