Exporting
a Gradebook to Archive It
If you have used the Blackboard gradebook for any of your courses, you should export the gradebook at the end of each semester for each course. (This is recommended even for courses that you are keeping. It provides a backup copy of your grades. When we delete students from Blackboard upon graduation, their grades are removed from any courses they took. Even if you save the course, the grades will be deleted after we remove the students from the Blackboard system.
Here are the steps to export the gradebook:
Open your course in Blackboard
Control panel
Gradebook

Download grades
![]()

Check Comma for the delimiter type
Click Submit

Click Download

Click Save

Change the filename to something meaningful
such as bio210fall05.csv
Set the Save in location to somewhere
where you can find it
You might want to set up a folder in My Documents called Gradebooks and store your gradebook for each course there.
When the download is complete, click Close
If you double click on the .csv file, it
will automatically open up in Excel.
NOTE:
If
this doesn’t work, on some versions of IE you must right click on the Download
button and select Save Target as. Save the file as a .csv file. It will then open in Excel.
