Hollins University has a number of labs that students may use. There are large computer labs in Dana 111, Dana 236 and Pleasants 204. These labs are used for both teaching and by students for doing course work. In addition there are a number of smaller labs for general student use at various locations across campus (Dana 110A, Dana 115, the Library). A number of departments also have areas where a small number of computers with department specific software is available (Ex. Art, Psychology, Biology). There are over 85 publicly available computers for student use. Quick Time Tour of Hollins Computer Labs Hours Many of the labs are open 24/7. Check the Lab Hours webpage for further details. Software Even students who bring their own computer will want to use the labs at times. Specialized software used in some classes will not generally be installed on student owned computers. Students will want to use the computer labs to complete assignments for those classes. Do I Need My Own Computer? Having your own computer in the residence hall is a great convenience and we encourage students to bring one. A laptop is especially convenient for reasons of portability and space requirements. However, students without a computer can use the lab computers to complete their assignments. Hollins is predominately a PC campus. There are a limited number of Macs available in Dana 110 and the 1st floor lab in the Visual Arts Center Computer Services will be selling Office 2007 Professional for $100.00 at freshmen checkin. |
