Computer and Information Technologies
Laptop or Desktop
There are a number of places on campus where students with laptops can
connect to the Hollins network as well as the internet. Laptops
provide the convenience of portability and take up less space in
the dorm room. Hollins University Strongly recommends that all students bring
laptops.
Software
Hollins University uses Windows XP Professional,
Windows 7Professional,
and Office 2007 Professional in the labs. We
will be selling Office 2007 Professional Plus, Macintosh Office 2010, and
Windows 7 at checkin for $100.00.
Only Windows and Macintosh operating systems are supported at this time.
Recommended Computer Hardware Configuration
The computers in our labs do not have 3
1/2 floppy drives. Therefore we recommend that students use
a jump drive (flash drive) to move files between our network and other
locations not on the network. We plan to sell jump drives with
the Hollins logo at check-in.
PCs
|
Hollins University strongly encourages all computers to run Windows 7Professional
or Ultimate. Older operating systems still supported are Windows Vista
Business or Ultimate and Windows XP Professional.
All older versions of Windows (95, 98SE, ME, 2000, NT) are NOT
compatible with our network and are not supported by our Help Desk. |
