Luminis (my.hollins) FAQ

How do I login to My.Hollins.edu?

Go to http://my.hollins.edu and login entering the User Name and Password you enter for e-mail and logging into your computer.  This will take you to the My.Hollins.edu home page, which includes Quick Links to the Hollinsnet and other online services; channels for Personal and Campus Announcements; and a Web-based calendar application that allows you to see the Week@Hollins.

Clicking on the tabs near the top of the home page will take you to other sections of the portal for even more quick links.

How do I customize My.Hollins.edu?

You can easily customize My.Hollins.edu by adding new channels and tabs and removing those that are not useful to you. To customize your view of the portal, click the Content/Layout link in the upper left hand portion of the screen and click on the tab you want to change. You can then add, modify, or delete columns and channels on that tab. When you are finished, click the “back to” link to return to My.Hollins.edu. If you cannot figure out how to do something on a tab, click the Help icon in the upper right hand corner of the My.Hollins.edu screen. Under the Portal Help Menu, select “How Do I…” to get help on adding, modifying, or deleting columns, channels, and tabs.

Please note that certain channels, such as Personal Announcements, Campus Announcements, Quick Links, and Bookmarks on the home page, cannot be removed.

Further instructions on customizing and using the portal.

How do I access the Grapevine Archives from a Mac

to the Trash.  The Trash icon will become a disconnect  icon.

The archives for the articles will be in the  listed folders.

Do I have to access my e-mail through My.Hollins.edu?

To retrieve their e-mail, students must go through the My.Hollins.edu portal. However, faculty and staff will still receive their e-mail through Microsoft Outlook or through the Outlook Web Access application from home.  Instructions for using Luminis e-mail.

Will The Grapevine continue to be distributed?

Since the My.Hollins.edu home page prominently features a channel for Campus Announcements, The Grapevine will be phased out over the next several weeks and the portal will become the campus’s primary source for news. There are several major advantages to this change. First, you will no longer need to wait until each Wednesday to find out about campus news as My.Hollins.edu will be updated continuously. Second, you will be able to click on links to the articles you want to read as opposed to having to scroll through copy from every article, as is now the case with Grapevine.

My.Hollins.edu will also feature the following optional channels: MarketPlace, which will list items for sale or rent; a Community Message Board, for help wanted ads or area residents who are looking for babysitting, house sitting, or other services; and a Ride Board, where students who need rides or are offering them can post the information.

Please continue to submit Campus Announcements as well as postings for MarketPlace, the Community Message Board, and the Ride Board to Jeff Hodges, director of public relations, at jhodges@hollins.edu. The information will be placed online as soon as possible.

What about Today @ Hollins?

The daily e-mail blast publicizing campus events will end and in its place a continuously updated Today @ Hollins channel will be featured on My.Hollins.edu

Event information for Today @ Hollins should be sent to Aimee Arias in Student Affairs at aarias@hollins.edu. As with Campus Announcements, this information will be posted as quickly as possible.

My.Hollins.edu features channels for both Campus Announcements and Personal Announcements. What’s the difference?

Campus Announcements are created for the entire campus community to view.

Personal or Targeted Announcements can be sent to a specific group or groups or users based on role (student, faculty, staff), major, and/or selected classes. These can be configured to appear on the My.Hollins.edu main page and/or as an e-mail message for each recipient.

Individual departments or organizations on campus can post up to two Personal Announcements each week.

If you need to send a Personal Announcement, or create a group for your department, division or club, please contact one of the following individuals based on their listed area of responsibility:

Aimee Arias – Student Affairs (aarias@hollins.edu)

Laurie Gearhart – Business Office (lgearheart@hollins.edu)

            Alicia Godzwa/Kerry Edmonds – Human Resources (agodzwa@hollins.edu, kedmonds@hollins.edu)

            Anna Goodwin – Registrar’s Office (agoodwin@hollins.edu)

Jeff Hodges – Administration, External Relations (jhodges@hollins.edu)

Vicki McMahon – Academic Services (vmcmahon@hollins.edu)

Amy Moore – Scholarships & Financial Assistance (amoore@hollins.edu)

            Carol Reed/Ellen Witt – Information Technology (creed@hollins.edu, ewitt@hollins.edu)
