Book Reports
The book report assignment involves writing a brief summary & critique of an appropriate book and presenting it to the class. The report should be 3-5 pages. The presentation should last 8-10 minutes.
"Summary & critique" means you should summarize, but also address what you see as the strengths and weaknesses of the author(s)’s conceptualizations. The critique should be related to class reading and discussions (i.e., saying that you didn't like a book because it was too long is NOT a valid critique. Saying that the author doesn't acknowledge, or doesn't properly explain certain concepts of democracy is).
Note: If you report on a collection of essays you should give a sense of the entire book, but concentrate on what you perceive as the three to four most important pieces.
