Chariots are often associated with Classical civilization; this association is no accident. For several centuries, they were the primary means of employment for horses and a powerful addition to several ancient armies. The harnessed Greek horse left a more spectacular legacy than its ridden counterparts, the art of driving having been mastered long before the art of riding.
