The Campus Safety Office, located in Botetourt Hall, provides 24-hour-a-day security, dispatch, and public safety services to the campus community. Officers are linked to the Dispatch Center and each other by two-way radios. The officers conduct foot, bicycle, and vehicle patrols of the campus grounds, academic and administrative buildings, and residence halls with increased emphasis during the hours of darkness. Campus Security officers also provide additional duties such as personal safety escorts on campus, enforcing all parking regulations, registering student bicycles, and assisting with special events. The Department of Campus Safety has a Dispatch Center located within the main lobby of the Campus Safety Office located in Botetourt Hall. The dispatch center is staffed and operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week, throughout the year. The on campus emergency number, 6911, directly connects any campus phone with the Department of Campus Safety and should be used when fire, police, or medical response is required or there is a threat to community safety. This number is also published in the university telephone directory and student handbook. For information, escort services, and other non-emergency calls, students and employees should dial the 24-hour non-emergency number, 362-6419. |
