French, German, Spanish Placement Tests

In order to take the French, Spanish or German test, you will need to have your audio working and be able to use the Language Palette.  Your browser must also support frames.  This page will help you test your audio.  The link at the bottom of the page will let you test using the language palette.

I.   Testing Audio
You can test that you have the proper setup by clicking on the link below.

If you hear sound, your audio is working.

If you didn't hear sound or the level isn't appropriate, check the volume level in the system tray.

The system tray is on the right hand side of the PC task bar (by default, at the bottom of your screen).  It looks something like the following:       or .  Each person's icons will be slightly different depending on what is set up on their computers.  You may have to click on the icon to expand the system tray and see all of the icons in the system tray.  The , , or icon is the volume icon. 

Click on the  , ,  or icon once to bring up the volume control.  Push the slider up to raise the volume; down to lower it.  Make sure the Mute box is not checked.  If it is checked, click on it to clear it.

 If you still can't hear sound, make sure your speakers are plugged into the correct jack and that they are turned on.

If you are using WindowsMedia.com to play sound, check the media options area. 
indicates the sound is muted.  indicates that sound is available.  Click on this icon to switch from muted to enabled.  Use the green slider in the Media Option area to adjust volume.

If the sound is garbled, try listening to it again.  Click on the icon to play the sound again.  It may sound unclear until the total sound file has downloaded to your PC.
